Mobile check deposit made easy
These days you can pay bills online, send money to people using contactless person-to-person payments, and even transfer funds from one account to another with a few clicks on a computer keyboard or a few taps on your smart phone or tablet. But with all that digital technology, sometimes you have to deal with a good old-fashioned paper check. What then?
You could drive to the credit union to deposit the check old-school style. Or, you could stay home enjoying your morning cup of coffee and deposit the check using Mobile Check Deposit on your iPhone or Android smart phone. It’s safe and simple to use, and it will save you time and money because you don’t need to drive anywhere to deposit your check and you don’t need to stand in a teller line or wait in the drive-up.
To make a deposit, you take photos of both sides of the check and get an on-screen confirmation—it’s that easy. You should hang on to your check until you can confirm the deposit was posted to your account. Date and mark it as a mobile deposit so that you or your significant other don’t mistakenly try to deposit it again. Once you have confirmed the check has cleared, you can shred it.
Mobile Check Deposit is secure. The image of your check is stored at the credit union, not in the camera on your phone, so if you lose your phone you don’t need to worry about someone getting your banking information off of your check images.
These tips will help:
Don’t hold the check when you’re photographing it; set it down so the picture is steady.
Use a plain, dark background. A white check on a white table is hard for the computer to see. Likewise, avoid patterned backgrounds like a granite countertop.
Only the check should be in the frame. Get rid of other visual distractions like paper clips or other papers.
Detach any check stubs or pay slips.
